Countertop Care Instructions

Maintaining the natural beauty of your granite surfaces takes simple but regular maintenance. A daily wipe-down with mild, soapy water prevents build-up of substances potentially harmful to your granite countertop.

Properly sealing your granite countertops will give you more time to clean up those inevitable spills!

If you have unsealed granite here are some helpful stain treatments:

Make a paste with 1 cup of flour, 1 or 2 tablespoons of mild dishwashing liquid, and water. Apply directly to the stained portion of your granite countertop. Cover with plastic wrap, and let sit overnight. Gently scrape the mixture away with a wooden utensil, then clean with water.

A mixture better for oil or grease stains consists of 1 cup flour, 1 to 3 tablespoons hydrogen peroxide and enough water to form a paste. Apply to stain, cover with plastic wrap, and let sit overnight. Gently scrape away the mixture and wipe residue with a wet cloth.

A third paste alternative is to substitute ammonia for the soap or hydrogen peroxide: As before, leave solution on countertop overnight, covered, and gently remove in the morning.

If a stain is organic (from tea, coffee, or fruit), combine hydrogen peroxide with two drops of ammonia and use as a cleanser.

Marker or ink stains can be removed with acetone applied with a soft cloth.

Avoid acidic or abrasive cleaners for your granite counters. And be sure to use clean, soft cloths or sponges when cleaning your granite.
